Thanks, Robert. Nice of you to be so complimentary. I really liked Darin and feel he should be remembered as a fine artist.

Great post. I really enjoyed Kevin Spacey as Darin in the movie that came out some time ago.

Bobby Darin. He swaggered, snapped his fingers and shrugged his shoulders to jazz, blues, gospel, pop, folk, rhythm & blues and Country Western. He was the first great cross-over artist before the term was even phrased. He had a sleepy-eyed charis...

I'm on a Eastman kick because I just bought one of their archtops and I'm lovin' it, the AR605 CE. But when I bought that one I played a number of their ES-335 type thinline guitars, and they all sounded great. I'd look into them. Otherwise, I've ...

Chris, I have not played the 137. Sorry. I have heard good things about it. I saw a guy playing a 137 Custom on PBS on night one night and it sounded great.

Thanks, Bernard. I agree---lots more players in genres other than jazz are using the ES-175. Probably the ES-335 would suit me best, as I tend to mix it up: jazz, rock, blues, etc. How about the ES-137? Any thoughts on that model? Chris

I might be a little late to this discussion but I think you will like what you can do with the 335. I own a 335 and an ES 175D. While there is a definite difference and the 175 is more "jazzy" I suppose, I have found that I very much like the way ...

I love my early 70's ES 175 for Jazz of course, but if you slap some slinky strings on it, it can really rock if need be. Listen to some early Yes with Steve Howe...he gets a great tone with his 175...:) Good luck i your choice. Lyle Robinson htt...

Thanks, JIm. I appreciate your input. I may just go with an ES-175 for jazz.

I personally never found the solid-blocked guitars to sound good for anything warm like jazz. That solid block in the center has always created a nasally sound in my opinion. I tried several of them..es335...the Heritage 555...they are all the sam...

Thanks, Jerry, I've been leaning towards the ES-335. I think that is the way I'll go with this. Thanks! Chris

I love my 335 - it is the most versatile guitar I have.

Hey People, I thought I'd solicit your educated opinions. I play jazz, but also some blues and rock. I now have a uUild X-170 Manhattan, which I love and will keep. But I was thinking about purchasing another guitar that is versatile enough to get...

Chris, instrumentally, this is my favorite version of the song: I love ur tasteful licks, all the while maintaining the melody. Great arrangement! Guitar sounds great, too!

About Me:
Born and raised in Philadelphia. Graduated from Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania. I've played blues and funk all of my life. Currently studying jazz guitar with legendary jazz guitarist and teacher Chuck Anderson. Also teach guitar myself. Love traditional jazz guitar (from Eddie Lang, Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian) to bebop (Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery) and beyond (Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, Jimmy Bruno, Pat Martino). Also play bass, piano and drums. I've played in many venues over the years and look to play even more in the years ahead.

Bobby Darin: Legend

Bobby Darin. He swaggered, snapped his fingers and shrugged his shoulders to jazz, blues, gospel, pop, folk, rhythm & blues and Country Western. He was the first great cross-over artist before the term was even phrased. He had a sleepy-eyed charisma that kept his audience spellbound. He possessed a natural sense of rhythm and vocal timing that was unmatched among male vocalists. He did incredible impersonations, could dance with the best of them, and played any instrument he picked up like i… Continue

Howard Roberts: Legendary, Versatile Guitarist

Howard Roberts: Legendary Guitarist

One of the most versatile and talented guitarists of all time was the late, great Howard Roberts. Roberts was primarily a jazz guitarist and he fronted some legendary jazz combos with many of the greatest players in the world back in the 1950-80s.

But what made Howard extra special was his ability to play various genres of music on guitar, including pop, rock and blues. He was probably the most sought-after session guitarist in the industry from the early 19… Continue
