If you have been following the news today, you have undoubtedly heard about the plane crash in Buffalo New York that resulted in the loss of fifty lives. Amongst the tragic loss of life were two musicians from famed trumpet player
Chuck Mangione's current band: Sax player
Gerry Niewood and Guitarist
Coleman Mellett.
Up until an hour ago I had unfortunately, never heard of Coleman Mellett. It was only through a note from Jazz Guitarist Steve Khan's facebook page, sadly relaying the news of his good friend Gerry Niewood, that I heard about Coleman. After a quick search, I found Coleman's
Myspace page and listened to four outstanding tracks of music, which made the loss of this talented player more poignant. If you have the time, pay a visit to his
page and listen to what you can. And of course, check out
Gerry as well. They will both be missed by family, friends and lovers of great music everywhere. Please keep them both in your thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace Coleman and Gerry and thank you for what you gave us while here.
